Squaxin Chapter History

Squaxin: "We are people of the salmon. Our grandparents'

grandparent fished these waters, preserved her power.

They lived in a sacred manner within their environment,

harvesting and replenishing chinook, coho and chum."

November 28, 2006: Dear Arrowmen of the Chehalis Chapter of the Nisqually Lodge, Greetings, my name is Bob Barret and as your 2007 Chapter Chief.

When Tillcum Lodge merged with Kcum Kum and Tahoma Lodges in 1994, things went on as usual for at least a year. Tillcum Lodge became Tillicum Chapter of Nisqually Lodge. Greg Holtcamp was the Chapter Chief and Loren “Squeek” Carr was the Adviser. On June 14, 1995, the Lodge Executive Committee voted that Chapters should be divided into clans or tribes. The Black Hills District Chapter had their first meeting on September 19, 1995, from 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. at the Griffin School Library.

Kevin Stock, Troop 48, was elected Chapter Chief. Zack Boyce, Troop 48, was elected Vice Chief for Program. Chris Colella, Troop 48, was elected Vice Chief for Administration. Chris Gaston, Troop 48, was elected Secretary and Brian Stock, Troop 48, was elected Treasurer/Quartermaster. Ken Eldridge, 30 year veteran of the U.S. Forest Service, spoke on the Olympia National Park & camping.

After several months of organizing the Chapter, it was suggested by Kevin Rudesill that the name of the Chapter should be Squaxin. This was approved on November 21, 1995, by a 3 to 2 vote after Chapter Chief, Kevin Stock, broke the tie.

Kevin Stock remained as Chapter Chief in 1996. Zack Boyce, First Vice Chief; Chris Colella, Second Vice Chief, Chris Gaston, Secretary;  Brian Stock, Unit Elections; Andrew Scwisow, Dance Team; No one in ceremonies; Kyle Thaut, ASK; Jeff Parson, Chapter Adviser; Dave Wellman and David Stock, Assistant Advisers, and Dean Fulton, Chapter Staff Adviser.

Another round of elections were held Thursday, October 17, 1996 at the Tumwater Service Center. Kevin Stock, Chapter Chief, beat Scott Bondurant and Chris Gaston. Scott Bondurant, First Vice Chief, beat Chris Gaston. And for Second Vice Chief, Chris Gaston, won a tight race against Galen Williams who beat Matt Gundlock and one other youth from Troop 48 for Secretary.

When Troy Young resigned as Nisqually Lodge Chief in March 1997, Kevin Stock was appointed as Lodge Chief. We held a special election and Galen Williams was elected as Chapter Chief. At the same time, Kyle Thaut took over as Dance Team Chairperson.

Chapter Election were held in October 1997. Galen Williams ran un-opposed and was re-elected as Chapter Chief.
